Palace Symposium Artificial Intelligence
Jibes CEO Ivo-Paul Tummers and Senior Data Scientist dr. Ian FitzPatrick are honoured to have attended the Palace Symposium on Artificial Intelligence hosted by His Majesty King Willem-Alexander, Her Majesty Queen Máxima, and Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrix of The Netherlands.
The event provided an excellent forum in which leading minds from Neuroscience, Computer Science, AI, business and government discussed the impact of the rapid progress in AI technology on everyday life.
Ivo-Paul: ‘With the availability of large quantities of data, machines are taking over more and more tasks. It concerns mainly a shift from hard crafted expert systems to self-learning systems. More importantly, combinational this will enable computers to learn tasks without being explicitly programmed. Impressive to witness that our Royal House personally supports the debate on the social and economic impact by hosting this symposium’.
Jibes shares the vision espoused by Demis Hassabis, founder and CEO of Google’s DeepMind, of powerful AI systems that can ultimately assist humanity on many different fronts (from research on medicine to personal interaction).
Ian: ‘DeepMind has shown us the enormous potential and learning capacity of neural networks that can adapt to a domain or task with only minimal information. At the same time, to my mind, we should not abandon the wealth of knowledge gathered by scientific exploration of human cognition on the one hand and decades of investment in expert systems on the other. Rather we should rise to the challenge of marrying these approaches by creating hybrid solutions. Such an effort might well bring about the next paradigm shift in Machine Learning’.
